Goering was a decorated World War I pilot. He joined the Nazis party in 1922. He was elected to the Reichstag in 1928, and became its President in 1932. After the Nazi's rise to power in 1933, he became second in the Nazis heirachy after Hitler. Goering founded the Gestapo. His main occupation was head of the German Airforce. He lost popularity and power with the successful Allied bombing of Germany starting in 1943. He was tried and convicted in Nuremberg, but committed suicide before being hung.
